There’s no question about it – email hacking has been in the news a lot in the past few weeks and months.  Between the DNC (Democratic National Committee) and Yahoo, there’s been plenty of talk regarding the unsavory access to email accounts.  Regardless of where you come down on the political issue or whether or not you have a Yahoo account, you should really pay attention to what has happened.  The last thing you want is to be a victim yourself.  Although you don’t have 100% control over staying safe (think Yahoo) you DO have a ton of ways you can protect yourself.

Over the next few blog posts, we’re going to examine each of the most common ways email accounts are hacked.  When it’s possible, we’re going to reveal what you as a computer user can do to keep your email account as safe as possible.  One thing you should remember, as President-elect Trump just said New Year’s Eve, no computer is safe.  In other words, if your computing device is online, there is a risk of being hacked.  Of course, you could drop out of the online experience but in today’s world, that is virtually impossible as almost everything is done online.  A better solution is to learn and practice the many ways you can use to make your devices secure enough that the average hacker will simply pass over your computer/accounts and move on to someone who has not taken the same precautions.

Come back tomorrow when we examine the first item on our list of email hacking methods.
