Here are some follow-up questions we received after the webinar along with our answers:

Q1.  Are your documents on SkyDrive slower to work with than if they were on your computer?

A1.  As with anything on the Internet, there can be a lag between what you do on your computer and what happens online.  These lags are caused by Internet speeds at the time you are working, by things your computer may be doing online in the background (backing up online, as an example) and by the number of people accessing SkyDrive at the same time.  This is true of anything online, of course, not just SkyDrive.

Q2.  Do you need Office files in both places - in the cloud and on your computer?

A2.  As I mentioned during the webinar, one of the advantages of using SkyDrive is that you don't need to purchase the software.  However, one disadvantage of cloud computing is that if you lose Internet access or you can't get into your SkyDrive account for some reason, then you might be in a jam if your file is only in SkyDrive.  Still, one would need to weigh the chances of that happening vs. the cost of software, updates, backup, etc.

Q3.  Do your friends have to have a SkyDrive account in order to view your pictures?

A3.  For things in SkyDrive that you allow everyone to view, you can “get a link” and send the link to anyone you like.  For instance, here is the link to my four FEC photos which I uploaded during the webinar: http://tinyurl.com/4467uka

Even if you don’t have a Windows Live ID, you can view the pictures at that link.

Q4.  Do the tutorials work on word, excel, for those of us who are not familiar with the new version?

A4.  In each of the four Office programs on SkyDrive (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote) there is a question mark (?) in the upper right-hand corner.  If you click on that, a new window pops up and it will be the Office Online Help center.  From this window, you can search for help, watch training videos, or just walk through the “Getting Started” section.  Microsoft has excellent help for Office products.
