Yesterday morning, Joyce and I were both in the office working away on our computers. We had people in Remote and all was well. Suddenly, we couldn’t go anywhere – not on the people’s computers in Remote and not on our on computers. No need to panic, this happens from time to time and we just wait for the modem to reset. Usually, all is well in a few minutes.
Not yesterday! After we didn’t get back online in a reasonable time, I called Comcast and spent about an hour on the phone with one of their 2nd Tier techs. The woman helping me was very knowledgeable and pleasant. She appreciated working with another tech and we got a lot of testing done quickly.
Eventually, she and I both agreed the issue was the modem. I took the four-year old piece of equipment to the nearest Comcast office and, after waiting in the usual long line, I exchanged it. Coming back to the shop, I got it hooked up and it took another hour to get the modem online, registered and working.
I then had to reset all the Wi-Fi networks plus all the printers that have static IP addresses. Finally, when we thought we were ready to roll, I discovered that our download speed was only about 1/8 of what it’s supposed to be. After calling the Comcast computer and having the modem reset, the speed was back to where it should have been.
All told, we were offline for about 6 hours. Although Kari wasn’t affected since she doesn’t work out of our office, anyone wanting more than a quarterly update was left hanging. Needless to say, this left last night and today pretty busy. We apologize to anyone who couldn’t get through to us!
