Isn’t it odd that some celebrities are so well known that they are only called by one name? What is the criteria for being in a position that people only need to know your one appellation?
Think about it! The King of Rock and Roll was known by both of his names – Elvis Presley. The King of Pop was known my two names, too – Michael Jackson. The Queen of Soul wasn’t Aretha, she was Aretha Franklin. Of course, the Queen of Country Pop is Shania Twain not just Shania.
Yet, some use only one name and still make it to the top of popularity. Cher is a good example but there are others: Bono (the Irish singer), Prince, Beyoncé, Sting, Charo, Eminem, Pink, Adele, Fabio, Liberace, Seal and Rhianna to name a few. How is it that images of these celebs are conjured up in our minds when we just hear their single moniker?
Oh, I know what you’re thinking right now: “What does all of this have to do with computing?”
We have a dear pastor friend who, when he was preaching, would sometimes ask his congregation this question: “What does it mean during a sermon when a pastor takes off his watch and looks at it?”
The answer to that question is the same as the answer to your question above: “Absolutely nothing!!”
That’s right, the goal of this post isn’t to get you to think about celebrities who are known by a single name. The real purpose of this post is headlined in the Cher video above – it’s a reminder that you need to “Turn Back Time” this Saturday night since Daylight Saving Time ends at 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning. Enjoy your extra hour of sleep!
