Credit Card Recommendation

What Credit Card Recommendation Am I Making?

Yes, this is still a computing-related blog rather than a financial one. However, because of the virtual abilities of a particular credit card, I’m making a recommendation.

If you don’t already have a Capital One credit card, I highly recommend the card to you.

Why Am I Recommending A Capital One Credit Card?

Both Joyce and I have Capital One cards and we love them. Here is a list of the computing-related features that make us always want to use this card:

  • You can adjust the settings so that Capital One texts you whenever a charge is put on the card where the physical card was not present. For example, if I charge something online, I get a text when the charge (or the hold) goes through.
  • Capital One will text you if a tip on a restaurant bill seems too high. For instance, the other day Joyce and I got take-out and we had a gift card. When that amount was deducted we barely owed anything but I added a tip based on the full amount of the check. Since that made the tip way more than 18-20%, Capital One notified me to make sure the tip was legitimate.
  • Capital One will text you if there’s any suspicious activity on your card.
  • Using the browser extension Eno, you can create temporary credit card numbers and security numbers. Those numbers can only be used on that site so, if someone steals it, they can’t use it elsewhere and they don’t get your real credit card numbers. It’s an awesome tool that just makes online transactions so much more secure. For this reason alone, it’s worth having the Capital One card.
  • You can tie the card with Capital One Shopping which saves you money and give you rewards.

Which Feature Is The Key

My credit card recommendation is Capital One for a lot of reasons but, to me, the ability to use virtual credit card numbers is the key feature. Hackers are everywhere and they are diligent in their quest to steal credit card numbers. This is an added layer of protection.

Reminder

Please remember, I’m not a financial consultant – I’m a computer guy. Which credit cards you have or don’t have is none of my business. I’m making this recommendation based on my own personal experiences with the Capital One credit card’s computing-related features. (Just like on the “Products We Recommend” page, I never push a product or service I haven’t used myself and have been happy with.) I leave it to you. I’m not an affiliate partner with Capital One (not sure they even have affiliate partners) but if you apply through the link above and are accepted, I may receive a commission.

Bank of America credit card used to do all of the above. For some reason, they dropped the thing where you can create a number for a charge and that company never sees your real number…no idea why…but I used that feature all the time! I agree with you, that was the best thing. But as you know, old people don’t like change so I guess I’ll stick to BOA credit card and only enjoy all the other features you mention! Lol lol
