Our October Seminar!
Our October Seminar – titled, “Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor, Your Huddled Masses…” was a lot of fun! We had a nice turnout despite the heavy rain for more than an hour preceding the seminar! Thanks to everyone who attended. Whether you attended or not, you’ll find all the details about the seminar on this page. (I hope you’ll be able to attend our November 19th seminar!)
On this page, I’ll review what we went over. Please don’t hesitate to email me with any questions.
The 4KCC YouTube Channel
Several times during the seminar, I referred to my YouTube Channel and how you can now get to it through a shortcut – www.youtube.com/@4Keystone. I mentioned a number of videos you should watch if you haven’t seen them before. (Or, watch again as a review!) These videos included:
I strongly urge you to subscribe to my channel, if you haven’t already. Also, if you can “Like” my videos and leave comments, that really helps with my Google Search results. Instead of emailing me a nice comment, I respectfully ask that you comment under the video instead.
You do need to know this: you can only “Like,” “Subscribe” or comment if you have a Google account. (By the way, a Gmail account and a Google account are the same.) If you have an Android device, you already have a Gmail account, even if you aren’t using it. If you’d like to help me on YouTube and don’t have a Gmail account, it’s easy to sign up and it’s free! You can just get started HERE.
If you’re not sure how to subscribe, I have a video that explains the process! You’ll find it here:
4KCC Website
I showed the menu at the top of our website and explained what the little arrows mean. I also pointed out our new link to Johnnybluenote’s Goodies. We’ve teamed up with Pier 1 to add some of their items for sale and we’ll be adding our own in the next few weeks. Please check out the site by clicking HERE. I also mentioned that there are many useful things you can find on our website and you should go there often!
Fake But Good
We handed out papers with a number of fake emails that really, really look legitimate. (You can find them in the PowerPoint presentation linked below.)
One email claimed to be from the Geek Squad, another from a Bitcoin purchase; and, the last from a hacker who supposedly put a tracker on my computer and was recording me going to porn sites. (I explained that this particular hacker obviously doesn’t know that I’m married to an Italian from Brooklyn and that I value my life – thus, I’d never be visiting those kinds of sites! 😂
I shared the stories of several of my customers who fell for the Norton’s fake email. I outlined all the issues they had – changing bank and credit card accounts, having to go to the Social Security office, etc. Please be careful!
Shameless Plugs
I showed two shameless plugs during the seminar. The first was:
Anything Goes is coming to Port Saint Lucie High School where Joyce is the music director. Tickets should be going on sale sometime in November. The show will run during the last week of January 2023 and the first week of February 2023. The exact dates and times will be announced when the tickets go on sale. We hope to see you at the show! We’ll be giving tickets away at a later seminar.
Trinity’s Chili Cook-off is happening Saturday, October 22, 2022, at 3:00 PM. If you like chili, come with your $5 donation (benefits Blessings In A Bag – Trinity’s ministry to children at local schools) and enjoy some great chili.
Cybersecurity Awareness Month
October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month but I explained that we all need to be aware every day – not just one month out of the year.
For this subject, we passed out a sheet on Cybersecurity. (For those not in attendance, you can find it HERE.) We discussed things like strong passwords, using two-step authentication and not storing passwords in a browser.
You can get all the extension information in the PowerPoint below OR you can read my blog post on the topic. You’ll find that HERE.
Additionally, we gave out a sheet showing the Key findings regarding Gen Z and cybersecurity. You will find that handout HERE.
Computer Basic Info
I shared some very basic items during the class. Although some of those in attendance have been using computers for years, these items were either new or had been forgotten.
Collapsed and Expanded
Those little arrows in front of certain items in File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac) do mean something. Here’s the example I showed:

Sorting By Columns
Again, something so very basic yet often overlooked. Whenever a window or email account is in column view, you can sort by clicking on the heading for the column. Click a second time and the order of sorting is reversed. We looked at Gmail but you actually can no longer sort by column. If you want to sort by sender, or subject, etc., you would need to use search filters. I will show this in our November Seminar.
Ransomware Comes Full Circle
We talked about a new ransomware, Magniber, that targets home computer users. It poses as an update for Windows 10 or for anti-virus. We’ll look at this in more depth at our next seminar as more information about it becomes available.
While the threat of ransomware makes offline backup important, it’s not the only reason. If you don’t have offline backup yet, I strongly urge you to get Carbonite. You can purchase it HERE and we’ll help you install it if you have any issues.
Email Subscription Confirmation
I demonstrated how you’ll receive an email subscription confirmation if you sign up for our blog email list or if I add you to our “Seminar Regulars” list. I mentioned that you only get one chance to confirm so you should look for it in your Spam/Junk box if it doesn’t land in your Inbox. The Confirmation Email looks like this:

Our Next Seminar
Our next seminar will be Saturday, November 19, 2022. You can get all the seminar information by visiting our seminar page: https://www.4kcc.com/seminars. We hope to see you then!
