It’s been about 2 years since I first published a video warning people about the fake webpages and pop-ups that can appear on your computing devices.\u00a0 (You can watch the video farther down in this post.)\u00a0 Still, every week we receive at least one phone call or one person logs into our Remote Technical Support (www.4kcc.com\/rts<\/a>) to tell us that they were tricked into falling for these fake scams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just as a reminder, here are two examples of these FAKE SCAMS:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I always get a kick out of this one – it warns you to NOT do what you should do – turn your computer off.\u00a0 (Unless you know how to use Task Manager or Force Quit.)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

This warning goes out of its way to make you think it’s from Microsoft.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

When someone receives one of these fake warnings, after we tell them how to get rid of them (NEVER, NEVER, NEVER call the phone # listed in the scam or click on any links.<\/strong>), they often ask, “Why didn’t my anti-virus stop this page from appearing? Isn’t it working?\u00a0 Isn’t it a good anti-virus?”\u00a0 Those are reasonable questions and there’s a pretty simple answer to all of them.\u00a0 Anti-virus doesn’t stop these fake pages because there is nothing wrong with the page itself.\u00a0<\/strong> There are no viruses or malware hidden in the page’s code – nothing that would trigger an anti-virus.\u00a0 Instead of attempting to infiltrate your computing devices with bad code, the scammer simply uses words to panic you or trick you into calling them or clicking a link.\u00a0 Once you do that, you’re within their grasp and they will do and say anything to get you to buy their fake service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remember, NEVER respond to these fake pages.\u00a0 If you get one and can’t get rid of it, call us at 772-408-4425.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
