(Hold the physical button that you use to start your device in for 10 seconds &#8211; don&#8217;t cheat just because the screen goes blank, hold it in for 10 seconds.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-an-easier-way\">An Easier Way<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">But, on computers, there&#8217;s another, easier way of stopping the fake page.&nbsp; All you really need to do is shut down the browser <em>(Remember, a browser is the software that allows you to read web pages that are actually written in <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/developer.mozilla.org\/en-US\/docs\/Learn\/Getting_started_with_the_web\/HTML_basics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HTML code<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.&nbsp; Examples of browsers: Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, Opera, and Internet Explorer.)<\/em> in which the fake virus warning appears.&nbsp; Here&#8217;s how: &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-windows-computers\">Windows Computers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-on-a-windows-pc\"><strong>On a Windows PC &nbsp; &nbsp; <img decoding=\"async\" height=\"268\" class=\"wp-image-216\" style=\"width: 319px;\" alt=\"Windows alternative\" src=\"http:\/\/www.4kcc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/taskmanager.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.4kcc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/taskmanager.png 472w, https:\/\/www.4kcc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/taskmanager-300x252.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 472px) 100vw, 472px\" \/><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">On a Windows PC, you need to bring up the Task Manager window.&nbsp; There are a number of ways of doing that but these fake pages often prevent you from clicking on anything on your screen.&nbsp; Instead, you may need to use a <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.4kcc.com\/blog\/2019\/05\/06\/keyboard-shortcuts-save-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">keyboard shortcut<\/a><\/span><\/strong>. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">On the left side of your keyboard, hold down the CTRL (Control) key and, at the same time hold down the SHIFT key.&nbsp; Then, click the ESC (Escape) key.&nbsp; In a few seconds, the Task Manager should appear.&nbsp; In the list of program processes, find whatever browser you have open.&nbsp; Click on the browser one time to highlight it, then click on the button that is labeled END TASK.&nbsp; If you have more than one browser opened, repeat this process on each browser until the fake page disappears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-mac-computers\">Mac Computers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-on-a-mac\">On A Mac&nbsp; <img decoding=\"async\" height=\"277\" class=\"wp-image-217\" style=\"width: 324px;\" alt=\"Mac turn-off alternative\" src=\"http:\/\/www.4kcc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/forcequit.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.4kcc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/forcequit.png 341w, https:\/\/www.4kcc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/forcequit-300x256.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 341px) 100vw, 341px\" \/><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">On a Mac, you need to bring up the Force Quit window.&nbsp; There are a number of ways of doing that but these fake pages often prevent you from clicking on anything on your screen.&nbsp; Instead, you may need to use a keyboard shortcut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">On the left side of your keyboard, hold down the COMMAND key and, at the same time hold down the OPTION key.&nbsp; Then, click the ESC (Escape) key.&nbsp; In a few seconds, the Force Quit window should appear.&nbsp; In the list of applications, find whatever browser you have open.&nbsp; Click on the browser one time to highlight it, then click on the button that is labeled FORCE QUIT.&nbsp; If you have more than one browser opened, repeat this process on each browser until the fake page disappears.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In our last post, I explained why your anti-virus doesn&#8217;t block the fake scam pages which can appear on your computing device.&nbsp; I also mentioned that one of the ways of getting rid of those pages is by turning your computing device off.
