{"id":3466,"date":"2020-02-15T08:09:54","date_gmt":"2020-02-15T13:09:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.4kcc.com\/blog\/?p=3466"},"modified":"2021-05-26T09:30:26","modified_gmt":"2021-05-26T13:30:26","slug":"frustrated-and-saddened","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.4kcc.com\/blog\/2020\/02\/15\/frustrated-and-saddened\/","title":{"rendered":"Frustrated and Saddened"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.4kcc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/angryman-1024x683.jpeg\" alt=\"frustrated and saddened man at computer pulling his hair out.\" class=\"wp-image-5986\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.4kcc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/angryman-1024x683.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/www.4kcc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/angryman-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.4kcc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/angryman-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.4kcc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/angryman-1536x1024.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/www.4kcc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/angryman-600x400.jpeg 600w, https:\/\/www.4kcc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/angryman.jpeg 1620w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-frustrated-and-saddened\">Frustrated and Saddened<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">I&#8217;m frustrated and saddened.\u00a0 For more than three years, I&#8217;ve been preaching and warning my customers about tech support scams.\u00a0 As recently as three days ago, in my blog post entitled &#8220;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.4kcc.com\/blog\/?p=3412\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Soapbox<\/strong><\/a>,&#8221; I reiterated how fake pop-ups and unsolicited phone calls trick people into being cheated.\u00a0 I shared the FBI report on Internet crime which showed computer users were robbed of $54 Million in 2019 by tech support schemes.\u00a0 (That&#8217;s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">reported<\/span> losses.\u00a0 Many people are too embarrassed to report the crime.)\u00a0 Also in my blog, I&#8217;ve repeatedly written about\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.4kcc.com\/blog\/?s=social+engineering\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Social Engineering<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and its ill effects.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve talked about these scammers at seminars, in webinars and in almost every Question of the Week email.\u00a0 Three years ago, I\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/RK2i8RtCP60\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>created a video<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0explaining how they work and what you should NOT do.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-despite-my-repeated-warnings\">Despite My Repeated Warnings&#8230;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">Even after all these warnings, this past week, two long-time customers fell for a tech support scam.\u00a0 They allowed fake techs onto their computers.\u00a0 One of these customers spent 2 1\/2 hours at their bank trying to straighten things out.  Why?  Because the thief hacked their checking account.\u00a0 Also, the hacker was turning their web cam on (the person could see themselves on the screen) and spying on them.\u00a0  Additionally, this same customer wound up buying a new computer.  Their computer was compromised to the point that it was less expensive to buy a new computer.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-it-pains-me\">It Pains Me<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">I can&#8217;t tell you how it pains me when one of my customers allows a complete stranger onto their computer and then gets ripped off.\u00a0 Also, on a purely selfish point, it irks me that the same person who will complain because I raise my Remote Technical Support subscription fee $10 will pay hundreds of dollars to a total stranger who is cheating them.\u00a0 (Note: I&#8217;m not talking about the two customers who became victims this past week.\u00a0 They have never complained about my prices.)
