In the first post, I covered emails. In this post, we\u2019ll switch gears and look at browser favorites a.k.a. bookmarks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When people read an actual book, they often will place bookmarks into the book. This is done to mark where a person stopped reading or to mark a page or passage that is important or that he or she really liked. The idea of marking pages so you can easily get back to them later is not a foreign concept for most of us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This same idea works for browsers on our computing devices. We can mark web pages as bookmarks so we can easily get back to them. We try to eliminate the process of searching again or retyping a web address and taking a chance on making a mistake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first confusion we have is that we hear two different terms: 1) bookmarks; 2) favorites. I\u2019ll make this simple \u2013 both terms mean exactly the same thing. A bookmark is a favorite and vice versa. For the sake of this post, I will use the term bookmark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that we have those terms straight, let\u2019s look at other terminology. The bookmark bar is a bar that can go across the top of your browser showing the web pages you use most frequently and that you\u2019ve bookmarked. Here\u2019s an example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"745\" height=\"115\" src=\"https:\/\/www.4kcc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/bookmark-bar.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3572\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.4kcc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/bookmark-bar.jpg 745w, https:\/\/www.4kcc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/bookmark-bar-600x93.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.4kcc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/bookmark-bar-300x46.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 745px) 100vw, 745px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In the picture, I\u2019ve placed bookmarks to a number of websites I use all the time like Amazon Smile, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re bookmarking a site and not saving it to the bookmark bar then you can save it under \u201cOther bookmarks\u201d or you can create your own bookmark folders. Here\u2019s an example from my bookmarks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"199\" height=\"413\" src=\"https:\/\/www.4kcc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/otherbookmarks_subfolders.jpg\" alt=\"List of bookmark folders\" class=\"wp-image-3573\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.4kcc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/otherbookmarks_subfolders.jpg 199w, https:\/\/www.4kcc.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/otherbookmarks_subfolders-145x300.jpg 145w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>As you can see, I have folders for various items. Inside each folder are bookmarks related to the title of the folder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Something you should know about browsers and bookmarks: each browser can have its own bookmarks. It is possible to import bookmarks from one browser to another but, as you add new bookmarks in one browser, the other browser\u2019s bookmarks are not automatically updated. But, more about this in our next post.
