A number of people who have watched our videos on our YouTube Channel (Haven’t visited the channel yet? Click HERE<\/a><\/strong>.) have asked me about the strange looking grey, horizontal lines on my desktop. They’ve wondered why they only see one icon. (It’s the “god” icon, btw. You can learn all about it from the video at the end of this post.) In this post, I’m going to answer those questions!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unlike my real desktop, I like to keep my virtual one clean. At our seminars, people often remark about the awesome desktop backgrounds I have. I want to see those backgrounds, not get stuck looking at 50 or 60 icons and shortcuts. Enter a program called “Fences.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fences allows me to group my icons together. For instance, I have all my browsers in one fenced-in area. I have separate fences for Coral, Adobe, Printers and Cyberlink. I also have two miscellaneous fence areas for icons and shortcuts that don’t require their own area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reason you see those grey, horizontal lines is because the Fences program allows me to “roll up” a fence area. Let me show you a screenshot of one of the fences in the default mode – no roll up:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you have the program installed, how do you get icons and shortcuts into a fence? The process is very easy:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Holding down the left mouse button, draw a rectangle. The size doesn’t matter.<\/li>
  2. When you let go of the mouse button, a menu will appear.<\/li>
  3. From the menu, choose “Create Fence Here.”<\/li>
  4. Enter a Title for your fence.<\/li>
  5. Drag icons and shortcuts from the desktop into the new fence area.<\/li>
  6. If you make a mistake, just drag the wrong icon\/shortcut out of the fence area and back onto the desktop.<\/li>
  7. You can resize the fence area just like you can resize any normal window.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Another cool feature about Fences is that you can double-click on an open area of the desktop and all the fences and icons will disappear. Double-click again and they’re back!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
