The other day, I was in a customer’s home on a service call.\u00a0 When I was finished, they paid me with a check.\u00a0 However, they didn’t handwrite the check, they put it in their typewriter and typed the check.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many young people have no idea how we used typewriters in our daily lives, way back when!\u00a0 Something else happened today that reminded me of using carbon paper to make copies of whatever we were typing.\u00a0 At the bottom of a letter, we would put cc:\u00a0 and list the names of those who were getting a carbon copy.\u00a0 However, sometimes we made a copy and sent it to someone who we did not list under cc:.\u00a0 We called those copies blind carbon copies (bcc:).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What reminded me was that I receive an email from a friend and there were a ton of people listed in the To: field.\u00a0 That meant everyone could see everyone else’s email address.\u00a0 This email broke my #1 rule:\u00a0 when you send an email to a group of people who don’t know each other, always use the BCC: field.
