As you most likely know, here at 4KCC.COM, we offer <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.4kcc.com\/rts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Remote Technical Support<\/a><\/strong>.  In my blog, I have often talked about those fake support companies who rip off frightened and confused customers.  In this post, I want to talk about a new twist in their deception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-is-remote-support\">What Is Remote Support?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">Although I&#8217;m sure the great majority of my blog readers know about remote support, I&#8217;ll define it just in case.  Remote support is the process of helping a computer user remotely through the Internet.  There are many programs that offer the ability to log in to someone&#8217;s computer across the wide expanse of the Net.  Some of these are built-in to the OS (Operating System) while others are apps that you install on your device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-differences-in-software\">Differences In Software<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">As I just mentioned, there are different apps that allow remote support.  There are free programs like TeamViewer and there are paid ones like LogMeIn.  Here at 4KCC, we use what I consider to be the Cadillac of remote software &#8211; <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondtrust.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BeyondTrust<\/a><\/strong>.  No, it&#8217;s not free software.  In fact, currently, it costs us about $4300 a year.  However, it gives us more options than other software we have used in the past.  More importantly, the BeyondTrust software offers far more security than most of the other programs available.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-remote-software-lies\">Remote Software Lies<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">If you&#8217;ve read some of my other posts, about fake remote support companies, you already know some of their lies.  For good measure, I&#8217;ll review some of them:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-list\"><li>Your computer is notifying us of update issues and we need to fix them.<\/li><li>There are foreign hackers on your computer.<\/li><li>Your IP address is showing on the Internet.  (It is but that&#8217;s not really an issue.  Your house number probably appears on your mailbox, too, but that doesn&#8217;t tell anyone about who lives in your home or what you are doing inside.)<\/li><li>Finances may be at risk.<\/li><li>Your computer has a virus and if you turn your computer off, you&#8217;ll lose all your data.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-newest-lie\">The Newest Lie<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">Here&#8217;s a new twist we just heard of the other day.  A customer was tricked into allowing a stranger onto his computer.  The fake scammer, seeing our 4KCC icon on our customer&#8217;s desktop, told him that he was one of our technicians.  In other words, he claimed he worked for us.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-to-be-clear\"><strong>To Be Clear<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">Just so there&#8217;s no doubt in your mind, there are only three of us here at 4KCC working Remote Technical Support.  There&#8217;s Caitlin who has worked for us for some time now and is very good and well liked.  There&#8217;s my wife, Joyce, who finds time to work remotely with customers despite her heavy load of music-related obligations (Joyce is a professional  musician, if you didn&#8217;t know.) and then there&#8217;s me, John.  No one else works for us and anyone claiming so is just giving you a remote support lie.
