How To Get AI To Write In Your Own Voice
Unless you’re a techy, you might be thinking of AI as a smarter Google Search. But it’s way more than that. Here’s a little project for you to try, even if you know nothing about AI. The good news is that you can use any free AI tool (ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, etc.). Yes, most of them will ask you to sign in or create an account, but you don’t have to buy anything. It won’t cost you a dime!
PROMPT – Whenever you ask AI to do something, that is called a prompt. The better the prompt, usually, the better the results. For this project, I’m going to give you the prompt. You’ll have one place in the prompt for you to insert your own information. I’ll give you an example of how I would use this prompt.
In this project, we’re not going to ask AI anything. Instead, we’re going to prompt it to ask us questions! Here’s the prompt:
I want to write a one-page description of my railroad obsession. Don’t write it yet. Ask me one question at a time — about 10 total — until you have enough to write it in my voice. Then write it.”
Simply copy and paste the prompt into the AI tool you’ve chosen. Where I put something in red, take that out and insert your business, your hobby, your ministry, your likes, or your obsession. Once you send the prompt to AI, it will ask you questions. Be sure to answer honestly, conversationally, typos and all. Don’t answer with what you might think AI wants you to say; just tell the truth!
At the end, you’ll get an About page or something similar, all from information that exists nowhere on the Internet. Feel free to share what happens here in chat.
