What’s Up?

Okay…it’s not What’s Up, it’s WhatsApp. This app is one of the two I featured at our seminar this past Saturday. If you do any traveling outside of the US or if you need to be in touch with friends or relatives who are outside our borders, this is the app to have. Actually, it might be the app to have even if everyone is in the US. Why? Because everything you do is encrypted end-to-end. I mean everything is encrypted – chats, phone calls, photos, etc.

What is WhatsApp? It’s an application that allows you to text, send photos and documents, make audio phone calls and even make video phone calls between yourself and other WhatsApp users. The app is free and you only need an Internet connection to use it. So, let’s say you’re on a cruise and you’ve purchased the ship’s W-Fi service. Now, you can call other WhatsApp users and it costs you nothing extra. Plus, just in case you’re on a cruise where a secret hacker’s convention is going on, none of those black hats will be able to read what you’ve texted or view the photos you’ve sent or hear your phone calls. Pretty neat, don’t you agree?

Here are a few of the benefits I mentioned at the seminar:

  1. WhatsApp is completely free to use.
  2. You can instantly send a message or make a voice or video phone call to anyone in the world as long as the other person also has the app and has Internet service.
  3. You can delete a message you’ve sent up to one hour after sending it.
  4. You can create groups to send messages to more than one WhatsApp user at the same time.
  5. You can import the contacts from your phone and it will tell you which of your friends are using WhatsApp.
  6. You can share your location, photos, status, images, documents and videos – again, all for free, all encrypted.

Another thing I really like about this app is that it isn’t just for the smartphone operating systems. You can also install it on your Windows devices and your Apple Mac computers. You just go to the Windows or Apple app store and download it. So, you can sit at your computer and use the app with others who might be on their smartphone or tablet.

Well I really do miss the seminars when I can’t make it. Fortunately for me I use What’s APP! Great topic by the way! I was wondering what I missed!
