No, I’m not standing out on the corner with a sign that says “The End Is Near!” Rather, I’m expressing this phrase as it relates to the computer world.

Pretty much all software eventually gets discontinued. It happens all the time. Right now, though, we are approaching some pretty significant software expiration dates. Here’s what I mean:

Windows 7 – Support for one of the most popular versions of the Microsoft Operating System comes to an end in January, 2020. If you’re still using this OS version by then, your computer will no longer be safe online. Time to call us about getting a new computer!

Microsoft Office 2010 – I’ve always been a big fan of Microsoft Office and have used every version. Office 2010 is set to end support in October 2020. Why don’t you replace it before that? It’s time.

Adobe Flash Player – Adobe Flash Player has been a staple for producing videos and games for a very long time. Unfortunately, while it allowed good things to happen, it also was a playground for hackers. The chaos they’ve caused has pretty much killed Flash. It’s official end is December 31, 2020.

iTunes – Yes, Apple’s iTunes, which has been around for 18 years, is on its way out. The newest iMac Operating System – Catalina – does not have an iTunes app. Instead, it has Apple Music, Apple TV and Apple Podcast to take its place. For the time being, though, iTunes For Windows is staying as it is.

I can’t express enough the importance of making changes BEFORE support of these software products ends. Don’t wait until December 31, 2019 to purchase a new computer if yours is running Windows 7. Now is when you should be making a change. If you’re a iMac user, get ready for the newest version changes. Or, consider replacing your Mac with the newest model. (We can help with that, too!)
