I am sometimes amazed when I read blog posts from some of the online “media giants.” This morning, I skimmed one such post. In the writing, the writer was explaining how you can upgrade your Windows 7 computer to Windows 10 for free. If you are still using Windows 7 and think this is a possibility, here’s all I have to say to you: don’t do it!

Upgrading a Windows 7 machine to Windows 10 isn’t really about the money. It’s about the hardware. If you have a machine old enough to have come with Windows 7, the you need a new computer. The older processors and memory weren’t designed with Windows 10 in mind. Many old Win 7 machines only have 4GB of memory when you shouldn’t even consider Win 10 with less than 8GB. Plus, hard drives only last so long. It’s been 4 1/3 years since Windows 10 first arrived on the scene. Trust me, even if you can upgrade for free, you’ll be overpaying.

When support for Windows 7 ends in two months, just bite the bullet and get a new machine. Or better yet, don’t wait until the very end, buy now.
