Velociraptor Attack

Is my ear about to be eaten by a Velociraptor? I hope not! *

Apologies to my Mac readers but this post is all about a Windows 10 feature – 3D Viewer. There’s also a 3D Builder app you can download for free from the Microsoft Store. But, before you get into the Builder, I would recommend you play around with the 3D Viewer.

To get to the Viewer, use the Windows 10 search bar and type in “3D Viewer” (without the quotes) and the Viewer will appear at the top of the results menu. Click on it and 3D Viewer will open. There will be a welcome screen and after you’ve read what’s there, click on the OK button.

Usually, a bee appears. Use your mouse to move the bee, resize it and rotate it. Now, if you have a web cam installed, click on Mixed Reality at the top right of the app. Your web cam will turn on and you and the bee are now in the same picture. There’s the opportunity to take a single picture or actually take video, if you want to play around.

There are many possibilities with 3D but you’re not going to learn it in one blog post. Still, I just wanted to give you a quick intro to the Viewer and the Builder. Here’s the same picture as above except I took it into the Builder and played around with it:

Me and the Velociraptor in 3D from Builder

Don’t worry about Builder right now but start playing around with the Windows 10 3D Viewer.

* Velociraptor is a genus of dromaeosaurid theropod dinosaur that lived approximately 75 to 71 million years ago during the latter part of the Cretaceous Period.
