No, I’m not talking about a time machine that can take us back to the year 2009. I’m actually posting to tell you Windows 10 users that the latest version of the Operating System was released a few days ago. Of course, with a zillion Windows 10 computing devices out there, it may take many weeks before it’s pushed out to everyone. (Okay, a “zillion” might be a stretch but it’s close to that!) The new Windows 10 version number is 2009. That’s year 2020 and the month of September. Wait! It’s October, shouldn’t it be version 2010? You’d think so but this is Microsoft – they are always a month behind when releasing versions.
How You Get Version 2009
There are basically three four ways to get the new version:
- You can simply wait until Microsoft pushes the update out to your computer. This could be tomorrow or it could be weeks from now.
- You can go to the Start Menu, Settings and Updates. Then, check for updates. If it’s available for your computer, you can download and install it.
- You can download it directly from Microsoft’s website and install it. The URL is: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10. Once you are on the page, click the button labeled “Update Now.” Do NOT use the “Download Tool Now” unless you are going to use a USB drive to install the update on a different computer from the one you are using.
- If you’re a Remote Technical Support customer, you can log in and we’ll install the update for you.
Unlike the version updates that are released in the Spring, this update is more like the old service pack updates from earlier days of Windows. If your computer has decent download Internet speed, the update should take less than an hour.
