Back on May 15, 2019, I posted some information about the Dark Web. (The Dark Web) In that message, I discouraged you from going there. It can be a very dangerous place to visit as many sinister activities take place within its area of the Internet. However, not everything on the Dark Web is evil.
There are some legitimate websites that have created mirror sites on the Dark Web. Above is a screenshot of the BBC’s webpage and here is a screenshot of The New York Times front page banner:
If you look closely at either of the two website addresses, you’ll notice that the URL ends in .onion. If you try to type the address into a normal browser (Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera, etc.) you’ll receive an error message. You need the Tor browser to visit Dark Web sites.
“Why would the BBC and The New York Times mirror their .com sites onto the Dark Web?” I hear you ask. Unlike those of us who live in the US or Canada or Britain and have free access to the web, there are countries which restrict access to certain areas of the Net. This is especially true when it comes to news websites which certain country leaders might not want their people reading. Since the Dark Web, when accessed properly, screams of anonymity, a person could safely visit legitimate websites without alerting authorities.
Soon, I’ll be posting more info about the Dark Web including the Tor browser. If you’re curious, be sure to look for that post in the near future.
