If you’re going to use YouTube, it’s important to know how to create a playlist. I’ll give you all the info you need right here in this post!
What’s A YouTube Playlist?
In my post, “How To Subscribe To A YouTube Channel,” I explained the term “channel.” I also mentioned that to subscribe you need a Google account. The same is true when it comes to creating a playlist. Even if you don’t upload videos yourself, you can organize other people’s videos into a group. These groups are called playlists.
As an example, in my post about dance mashups, I shared my playlist with the same name. I found videos from other channels, all of which were dance mashups, and put them together. This way, I can simply go to my playlist and watch the videos again. I can do this without having to search for them again or bookmark each page in my browser. (You can view this playlist HERE.)
Creating A Playlist
On every video on YouTube, you’ll see a small “save” icon. It looks like this:
When you find a video you’d like to add to a playlist, you simply click or tap the Save icon and a window similar to this one will appear:
As you can see in the picture above, any playlists you’ve already created will appear in the list. Also, there’s a YouTube default playlist named “Watch later” which will always be there. You might notice that it has a locked padlock to the right. That means it’s a private list. Also, notice at the bottom “Create new playlist.” If you click or tap there, you’ll get this window:
At the bottom of the window above, you can enter a playlist name and you can decide if it’s going to be public, unlisted or private. If you mark a playlist public, that means anyone on YouTube can find it. If it’s unlisted, people would need a link shared from you to view it. Mark it private and you’re the only one who can see it.
A Special Note About Creating A Playlist On YouTube
When you create playlists from other people’s videos, there are some things that can happen. If they remove the video or change it to unlisted, you’ll see this in your playlist:
